There are places I can download nearly all of the new album in live sessions but I know the quality is going to be bad and I just don’t wanna hear the album first time in bad quality… really I want to hear it on vinyl but I don’t have the money to buy a record player just for PJ Harvey. Do I?
Here are some songs though!

So, despite owning loads of vinyl, I don’t think it really makes a huge difference. The sound is a bit warmer but you can reproduce that by running a filter on your sound on your computer software. If you’re concerned about fidelity then maybe download it in flac format (or some other lossless format) or even just a hi res mp3 file (res isn’t the right word, but I can’t remember it right this second).
Saves a little bit of money, although to really appreciate the difference you’d probably have to get a super expensive hifi set (same goes for buying a record player).
But then, maybe I’m missing the point. I do lust after vinyl more, even though I inevitably play it less.

I think it’s more about the object {finding records and their sleeves}, the ritual, the smell, the crackling sound, the warmth, the whole shebang. The idea of running a filter through the sound on my computer software to create that warm sound leaves me cold. Obviously I don’t have the money right now to splash out on a nice system, but I need to soon; everything electrical I own is falling apart

All true. The enjoyment of the item itself is really satisfying, it’s just not about the sound, is I think what I’m saying. x
