i just wanted to exclaim loudly that I DO NOT UNDERSTAND why people find watching programmes like Holby City and the like entertaining
“OH.. you’ve got cancer? Well.. let’s watch you slowly die over the course of a series”
“Oh you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes? Let’s see how the quality of your life will be reduced until you may go blind and have to become dependant on drugs for the rest of your life”
“Ooops, don’t touch that BBQ! You might end up having to have your hands amputated”
and
“Nurse, this one’s puking, look” and we have to look, and listen.
I don’t get it.

Me neither. Mind you I don’t get soaps, either. Why would anyone want to watch a load of miserable bastards whinging on, whether they’re in a hospital, a particular street or the Square of Misery. For heaven’s sake we have enough of that shit to deal with every day without them putting more on TV.
So yeh… I don’t get it either… love the “Nurse, this one’s puking…” line!

It puts things into perspective for me and I realise I’m not so bad off after all and things could be much much worse. sometimes there are sexy characters.

BC – I like the square of misery! At least, its great to watch on a sunday in one big chunk. There’s just something particular about watching ill people that I don’t get.
Which leads me to woodwalker…I can understand how it may put things in perspective, but to me this would be an uncomfortable thing, not something I’d bed down for the evening to enjoy. It’s like rescue shows and car accidents, I feel totally uncomfortable watching them. I guess because it makes me more aware of it and if I’m not careful I get too into imagining what it’d be like in that situation. I’d rather keep my mind trouble free of mishaps that may occur, its an anxious enough place as it is And I’ve hardly ever fancied people on TV.. so that plus side is useless…
